If using automated immigration gates, ask staff for a stamp/seal to prove your entry date—without it, you cannot rent a car. If you’re registered in Japan’s Resident Register and re-enter within 3 months (not cumulatively), your re-entry date won’t count as the "landing date" for international license validity.
