They sorted everything out really smoothly. Our English isn’t great and sometimes it’s hard to understand the staff, but Doubao handled it all for us.

Honestly, the whole city-center pickup at night was pretty stressful. No one contacted me even half an hour before the pickup time, so I had to shamelessly ask a few locals to borrow their phone and call the airport branch myself. I ended up waiting almost an hour before the guy finally showed up. He was actually really nice and the paperwork was quick, but the car I booked had an issue with the door lock, so they gave me a replacement that was pretty beat up all over, while the rental agreement stayed the same. It was dark, raining, and I was alone with this battle-scarred car—I was about ready to fall apart out there. On the bright side, the car drove really well; they upgraded me from a regular gas car to a hybrid, which saved a lot on fuel. The round trip to town A only cost about 28kr in gas, and even filling it up at the end stayed under 500kr. It was my first time driving alone on a road trip, and it turned into a pretty unforgettable experience.

The rental counter pushed us to buy yet another insurance and I honestly don’t get why. I’d already purchased the highest coverage on QEEQ but they said insurance bought in China means I’d have to pay out of pocket first and only claim reimbursement after going back home. In the end we had no choice but to pay for an extra policy.

Not many people there so everything was handled pretty quickly. Staff were fine, nothing special, and most of them only speak English—just one or two can speak Mandarin.

The staff were really helpful and friendly. They always tried to give us a better car, and sometimes even upgraded us. When my car was accidentally hit during the rental, they reached out right away, checked in on what happened, and clearly told me what I needed to do next.

Booked a Volvo XC40 but ended up with a Peugeot 5008 hybrid instead, which actually turned out great—saved some gas money too. There was no line when picking up the car, and the staff were super friendly with zero pushy upselling.

There were quite a lot of people when we picked up the car, so we had to wait a bit, but the return process was pretty efficient. You can basically just drop the car and leave. We only spent a little extra time because of the fueling issue. In the end, the staff acknowledged that the tank wasn’t full when we picked it up and gave us a fair settlement plan.

Really happy with Budget – the service was great, the car they gave us was smart, compact and almost brand new. The staff, especially the young ladies at the counter, were super friendly and easy to talk to. The only downside was the engine struggled a bit on those 30° hills in Queenstown. Both pickup and drop-off were really easy to find though.

Got to the rental center around 11pm on the fast, convenient shuttle, and everything at the counter was super efficient. Paperwork was really simple, no surprise add-ons. I just walked to the assigned spot myself—my original booking was for a Malibu sedan, but they upgraded me to a Chevy Traverse SUV with just a little over 4,000 miles on it. That really made my night.

For toll roads, make sure you ask exactly how the charges work—they said it’s deducted automatically, possibly with a small daily convenience fee.
