After landing, the rental company picked us up and drove us to their office. You really need to coordinate the pickup time in advance or you’ll end up waiting around. At the office, the staff kept pushing their own insurance, saying the platform’s insurance is a hassle to claim and all that… In the end, just to avoid trouble and get the car quickly and return it smoothly, I bought their insurance too — a bit over 300 for 3 days. After we finished the paperwork, we also bought a highway pass in the store. I clearly remember the staff saying it could be used 4 times, but in reality it only worked twice. The third time it showed insufficient balance, and we had to ask the highway staff to help us buy another card on the spot so we could get through. Not sure if that was a scam or just a misunderstanding… it’s only a few dozen yuan so I didn’t bother arguing. The car itself was fine and everything else went smoothly. Bali traffic in the main areas is really bad though — big roads are okay, but it’s still super congested. I’d recommend self-driving only if you’ve got plenty of time, otherwise you’ll spend the whole day stuck on the road.
The car was in good condition, and the staff of the rental company resolved issues promptly, enthusiastically, and professionally. It was an excellent experience.
Service was excellent. They delivered the car right to the parking lot at the international arrivals exit. Even though there ended up being tens of thousands extra on the toll/parking top-up card, the driver still drove us to the train station for free. For the return, we agreed in advance that we could drop the car at our hotel with no extra charges, which saved us an extra trip to the airport just to return the car.
Overall a really smooth experience. Staff were super friendly, everything went quickly and easily. The shop isn’t inside the airport but it’s quite close, and they arranged pickup and drop-off for us. Since we had a big group (7 people), they even sent two cars to shuttle us.
