10 Car Rental Brands at Belfast International Airport (BFS)

The staff were very helpful. I didn’t realize there were two airports in Belfast. Our booking was for the international airport, but we ended up at the city airport. The reception staff were very nice and quickly arranged a car for us. However, the service during the car exchange was just average. They wanted to charge £70 for a tiny scratch on the tire (we didn't encounter any issues during the rental period and have no idea how it happened; it was raining when we picked up the car, so we didn't notice it). In the end, the rental company didn't charge us, as it seems they resolved it internally. Overall, the experience was smooth, and no extra costs were incurred. It was a pleasant car rental experience.

The staff at the pick-up point were very friendly and always had a smile on their faces. There were no additional sales pitches. I had booked a Ford Focus but was upgraded for free to a Mercedes A180. However, there were quite a few people picking up cars, so the wait time was a bit long. Europcar didn't have too many customers compared to Avis next door, which had an extremely long line. Since Northern Ireland and Ireland are on a separate island without road connections to other countries, it’s harder for cars from other regions to come over, so there are more people renting cars here.

The car I booked for the 5 people plus luggage was a VW Passat Estate, but at the desk they stated that they didn;t have any Passats available and i was offered an alternative for the grade I paid for. This was a Skoda Octavia Estate which was over £30 cheaper on-line than the Passat. I said this and was offered a Nissan Qashqai (not big enough) and also a KIA Sportage (may have just been big enough), so I took the Skoda with the promise of a £30 discount to be credited back to my card. The car was absolutely fine and carried all luggage and 5 of us no problem, but as there were no PAssats I had no choice. Why advertise a car if you know there aren't any available. The Skoda was great but if i really wanted that car i would have booked it online first.

Terrible - Hertz wanted to charge a 1.300 GBP deposit on my credit card (including a horrendous imaginary price for fuel refilling)which was beyond my limit. I ended up having to take additional insurance of Hertz which costed 100 EUR and doubled the price of my car rental. They would then only take a 300 GBP deposit. An awful start into my holiday. And when a tyre went flat, the insurance wouldn't even cover that cost. :-( Apart from these incidents, it was okay!

My family are standing on the bus shelter for about 45 minutes. The company did not have a vehicle big enough to take the two adults and four small children. After waiting to get the car I was told I had to have insurance otherwise I was not going to get a car. I have hired cars from all around the world this is not the case. I explained I had an insurance policy that didn’t seem to matter despite showing him my certificate. The car had a great big dent in the side of it. Fortunately I took photos of the car before I collected it. The representative Aaron told me it doesn’t matter because I have insurance. I explained to him the dent already. He was not interested as I had insurance. There was one member of staff trying to run a business give lifts and answer the telephone. Absolutely terrible.

I ordered a 7 seater with 4 cases, when we arrived, we couldn’t even get out passengers and cases in the shuttle to the car hire place hence 2 x trips back and forth to the airport. The car did have 7 seats but no other space, I did ask to change the car during the rental period, but was told there were no other cars available. We were pushed to up sell extra insurance and told that our ‘protectmyexcess insurance’ wouldn’t cover bumps on private land (car parks) and given examples to get us to buy the policy, not the worst car hire, but also not the best!
