Easy reasonable

There is a free shuttle bus right outside the airport that takes you directly to the rental company. The service is very considerate.

We had to wait quite a bit for the shuttle bus at LAX. Several AVIS and HERTZ shuttles came before one Dollar shuttle arrived. At the rental location, there were many people at Dollar, possibly because it was around noon, a peak time. We waited in line for nearly an hour. They did offer additional insurance, which is optional depending on your choice. Initially, we chose a Jeep Cherokee, but it struggled with uphill roads. Later, at the Dollar rental spot at San Francisco Airport, we switched to a GMC. Its performance was much better, although it consumed more fuel. The car exchange process was very convenient: just refuel, a quick inspection, and then you get a few cars to choose from, which was nice.

The car rental counter took exceptionally long, due in large part to the manager refusing to allow his staff to use vehicles in the system. Instead, he ran around outside "preparing" cars and the staff used a walky talky to communicate car information and selection. Plus, the manager was rude to his staff. His staff was quite personable and professional, despite being treated so poorly.

Horrible experience. They double charged me for insurance. Cutsomer service said I would get a refund for that but I never got it - very sleazy stuff. The car's hood was open when I picked it up and it almost popped off when I got on the highway - this is just unacceptable... Avoid Dollar and stick with Enterprise.
